Array Labs Awarded U.S. Army Contract to Develop Distributed 3D Radar Satellite Technology
Array Labs has been awarded a $4.47 million contract by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, known as DEVCOM, Army Research Laboratory (ARL) to develop distributed radar satellite clusters for 3D imaging capabilities.
Array Labs builds innovative radar technologies to help customers understand the physical world. Seeing the world in 3D is crucial for topographic analysis (including slope, line of sight, and change over time) and can inform critical decisions in military operations, disaster response, infrastructure monitoring, and autonomy.
Clusters, or groups of satellites that operate together as a unified system, unlock performance not possible from a single satellite. They deliver significant increases in coverage, resolution, and fidelity, along with advantages in power, sensitivity, and resilience, all while lowering cost.
While conventional sensing methods rely on a single satellite repeatedly passing over a target to construct a 3D image, Array's distributed cluster of radar satellites observe a target from multiple angles simultaneously, producing a 3D image in a single pass. Radar clusters also provide the ability to sense in all weather, through cloud cover, day or night.
“Operators need to understand their environment as it currently exists, not as it was weeks or months ago. That's what we're working toward with ARL,” said Andrew Peterson, CEO and co-founder of Array Labs.
Array Labs has secured multiple government contracts in addition to the work with ARL, including awards from the U.S. Space Force, Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research, DARPA, and the U.S. Special Operations Command. The company announced a $20 million Series A in January 2026 and a $21 million strategic funding round in July 2026.
