Array Labs Awarded US Navy Contract Extension to Study Space-Based AMTI Concepts
The U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) has extended its contract with Array Labs, adding scope to an existing contract focused on applying distributed space-based radar technology to wide-area Airborne Moving Target Indication (AMTI) missions. Array announced Phase 1 of the effort in October 2025.
This extension builds on Array Labs' ongoing work in advanced space-based radar technologies, including single-pass 3D imaging and wide-area monitoring. Array will continue applying its expertise in distributed radar, high-power antenna arrays, and formation-flying radar satellites with the Navy. Distributed radar systems offer unique benefits in power, sensitivity, resolution, and resilience, opening new possibilities for both defense and commercial applications.
“We’re honored to continue our relationship with the Office of Naval Research as we work towards making AMTI an operational reality,” said Andrew Peterson, CEO of Array Labs.
Traditional airborne AMTI platforms have delivered valuable capabilities for decades, but they face limitations in persistence, survivability, coverage, and cost. Aircraft must operate within contested airspace, where they're vulnerable to adversary defenses, and they're limited by fuel, crew, and basing requirements. Satellite-based systems, by contrast, can provide continuous, global coverage from orbit, increasingly viewed as a more resilient long-term alternative.
Array Labs has secured multiple government contracts over the past two years. In addition to work with ONR, Array has awards from the Department of the Air Force (DAF), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM), and the Office of Department of War, Research and Engineering (OUSW R&E). The company announced a $20M Series A in January 2026.
