DARPA Taps Array Labs to Advance Distributed Space Architecture
DARPA selects Array Labs to advance simulation and modeling for its distributed radar satellite constellation, supporting development of optimal operating modes.
PALO ALTO, CA, July 31, 2025 — The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded Array Labs a contract to support modeling and simulation of its distributed radar satellite system.
Under this contract, Array will perform high-fidelity simulations to further validate its novel operating modes, which enable a new paradigm of wide-area, high-resolution imagery. These efforts build on Array’s existing body of work supporting its first commercial cluster, launching next year, and extend these techniques to future generations of the system with even greater performance. DARPA’s support brings the vision of a real-time 3D map of the world one step closer.
Array’s modeling will focus on how to best configure and scale its constellation to maximize imaging performance, system robustness, and data delivery under real-world conditions. The work builds on existing simulation efforts and helps validate design decisions that will shape how the constellation collects, communicates, and adapts over time.
DARPA has long played a defining role in advancing breakthrough technologies with global impact. Its investments helped seed GPS, stealth platforms, driverless cars, orbital Earth imaging, and commercial robotics.
“This marks another step in DARPA’s tradition of catalyzing enduring capabilities, not just technologies,” said Andrew Peterson, CEO of Array Labs. “We’re building to that standard: a sensing layer that doesn’t blink, delivering global domain awareness and real-time volumetric intelligence in places legacy systems can’t reach.”
Array Labs was recently designated “awardable” by DARPA’s Expedited Research Implementation Series (ERIS) Marketplace, a digital platform designed to accelerate acquisition velocity and drive national security innovation. The ERIS listing reflects a deep alignment between Array’s work and DARPA’s strategic priorities.
